Jamaica Partnership - Our 2004 Medical Team Working in Jamaica
June 17, 2004
Hello to all,
We are beginning our last day of seeing patients. We have seen over 600 people since Sunday afternoon. Everyone wishes for more time and more supplies as the need is great and weighs heavily on each of us. We continue to run out of supplies. The team members have been going to the stores in the evenings trying to find enough tooth brushes, Albuterol, Tylenol and cough syrup to get us through the next day. Our days begin around 5:30AM when “Rooster” decides it is time to wake everyone up (“Rooster” is the name we have given the neighbors dog. The VBS team will become very familiar with him.). Due to the amount of people, the registration is closed around 2:30 – 3:00PM. We finish seeing patients around 5:00PM, pack up and return to our base around 7:00PM in time to eat, shower and repack supplies for the next day. We have been getting to bed around 10:30PM. Everyone is exhausted but excited to be here and to be able to help. We did not finish seeing people last evening until after 7:00. We have had to turn away people that had registered each evening. We decided at lunch that we were staying until everyone registered was seen. It looked like it was going to be a late evening. The members of Gregory Park Baptist Church made us stop at lunch time even though no one on the team wanted to stop.
I need to stop now as our breakfast will be here in a few minutes and we did not have the strength to repack supplies last night when we got back to the base. We did have time to have a small birthday celebration for our host, Deacon Sydney Greaves. More about that later.
In Christ,
Marc Simes
