Becoming a Member

Once you have been attending Chancellor, and have gotten to know the Church and feel as if you have found your Church home, you may want to make that arrangement formal by becoming a member of the Church. There are several ways that you may do so. The Church's bylaws state that any person may offer himself or herself as a candidate for membership in this Church. All candidates shall be presented to the Church for acceptance at a membership meeting.

Prerequisites for Membership
  • • A profession of faith in Jesus Christ as personal Savior;
  • • Baptism in water by immersion, unless a handicap precludes immersion; and
  • • Completion of the Church’s new member class. Persons considering membership shall attend the Church’s new member class to learn about the Church, its history, doctrine, Constitution and Bylaws, ministries, expectations of members, and to commit to the covenant relationship of membership. The class enables prospective members to get answers to all questions before seeking membership. This class is appropriate and necessary for baptized and non-baptized membership candidates. With knowledge acquired from the new member class, a person may then decide to offer himself or herself to one of the Church pastors as a candidate for membership by responding to the Lord’s leading at a new member class or at a worship service invitation.

  • A service of baptism, if appropriate, will be scheduled soon after a candidate has responded. The candidate’s name will be presented to the membership for acceptance at a later membership meeting.
